Cajamarca
Albina had been working in Cajamarca on environmental topics at various occasions during the last few years. At a meeting at the World Economic Forum she came in contact with the CEO of Newmont Coorporation, Mr. Murdy Wayne, one of the key shareholders of the mining company Yanacocha, who showed sincere interest in the operations of the Schwab Foundation and the work of Albina and Ciudad Saludable in particular. Soon afterwards, she was invited to Yanacocha in Cajamarca to see if Ciudad Saludable could assist in leading an environmental awareness program. During this program Albina could not help but notice the inefficient way in which solid waste was managed in Cajamarca. Due to her previous work experience, contacts with the municipality of Cajamarca where soon made, which eventually led to a contract of the municipality with Ciudad Saludable. As in the other cities (Carhuaz, Pucallpa and Huarmey) an integral plan on how to manage solid waste was elaborated. The plan proposes an environmental awareness campaign (community, school and university workshops), training government workers and the establishment of an environment friendly sanitary anvil. However, the plan has still to be agreed on and funding has to be provided.
