VIRTUAL SPECIALIZATION PROGRAM "CHALLENGES AND TOOLS FOR AN INTEGRAL WASTE MANAGEMENT" 

Presentatión:
The Instituto para la Calidad of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and Ciudad Saludable have joined together to offer a long-distance specialization program called “Challenges and Tools for Integral Waste Management” at national and international levels. It is aimed at municipal officials, personnel of other public institutions, NGO’s employees, technicians from private institutions working on environmental issues and other professionals that work or desire to specialize in environmental administration and solid waste management.

Teachers Formation

Continuous Formation Program for Teachers "Environmental management in Educational institutions"

The aim of this program is to contribute to the formation of teachers and students that are environmentally responsible, capable of analyzing the environmental situation around them and propose solutions to environmental problems in order to promote sustainable development in their educational institutions.

This program is executed under an agreement signed with local education management units, regional education directions and Municipalities. It includes 8 training modules and at the end, participants shall execute an environmental education project that proposes the solution of the problems identified. 

Training modules are the following:

• Module I: School environmental management
• Module II: Solid waste environmental management
• Module III: Water environmental management
• Module IV: Air environmental management
• Module V: Green areas environmental management
• Module VI: Renewable energies environmental management
• Module VII: Risks and Infrastructure environmental management
• Module VIII: Design of innovative projects

Methodology:

• Participative, dynamic and subject to local situation.
• Learning process is based on problem analysis, plenary sessions, presentations, team work, bibliographic and field research as well as image analysis.

Control and Monitoring System:

• Attendance to workshops
• Team work at workshops
• Individual work during workshop and research activities
• Classroom and virtual consultancy
• Preparation of an innovative project about Environmental Education

Evaluation and Credits: 

1.    Participants shall come to sessions and do practical work.
2.    Evaluations are graded as Passed or Failed, according to the following criteria:

• Compliance of the attendance established;
• Individual and group evaluation (promptness, participation, leadership, responsibility and final product);
• Development of a final product: design of an innovative project.

3.    Credits shall be applied according to the certification made by organizers after the project is applied and defended.

Workshops

Education Management offers the following workshops:

• Creation and strengthening of school and neighboring environmental committees.
• Training workshops for the implementation of segregation at the sources aimed at businesses and offices, educational institutions, neighbor leaders, etc.
• Training workshops about environmental education aimed at university students.

Healthy Bag

The Healthy Bag offered by Ciudad Saludable contains educational material such as a poster about eco-efficient offices that explains how to implement environmental efficiency in offices, an environmental planner indicating the environmental celebrations calendar for 2009, flyers and two-page leaflets that promote segregation at the sources in houses and businesses. .

The use of the healthy bag is also promoted as a way to reduce the use of plastic bags. 
The cost of the healthy bag and materials is of S/. 15.00 (about USD $5.00). 

 

Book: Memorias del Centauro

The life of Recyclers 

This book tells stories, events and anecdotes of solid waste recyclers gathered by author José Roldan during months of being with them while working in the streets of Lima. 

It was published in 2008 sponsored by Ciudad Saludable and the Centro Nacional para el Arte y la Cultura (KUNTUR). 

The books costs S/. 20.00 (about USD $6.67).
