Proyecto PUCP

Project: "Long-distance specialization program about the challenges and tools required for an Integral Waste Management".

Description:

A specialization program about the challenges and tools required for integral waste management has been developed in order to contribute to the development of skills needed to achieve environmental management of solid waste.
This initiative is being implemented by the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) and Ciudad Saludable and has allowed the development of instruments and tools based on a study concerning the needs of the program users.

Goals:

At the end of the program, participants shall design and implement an Integral Solid Waste Management program within the framework of Law 27314, considering the design of solid waste recycling and trade as well as house collection, transportation, treatment and final disposal in order to optimize implementation costs, protect the health of the population and the environment and its adaptation to the legal regulation.

Lessons Learned:

Contribute to the development of skills in environmental and solid waste management among municipal officials, public institutions officials, NGO’s employees, and technicians from private institutions through virtual training using strategies commonly applied in e-learning.

Results:

The project has achieved the following:

  • Strengthening of skills in solid waste environmental management and administration among employees from public institutions, politicians, and private institutions in Peru and abroad.
  • During the four versions of the program 128 students out of 215 that enrolled have been trained.
  • The first version was in 2005 and we are currently teaching the fifth one.
