In Latin America, more than two million people collect solid waste and in Peru there are 100,000; these people are called recyclers. Unfortunately, until now the Peruvian Government has not recognized the work done by recyclers as part of the formal public cleaning system. In this scenario, on June 1st, 2008 the Movimiento Nacional de Recicladores del Peru (MNRP) was created. MNRP organizes, manages and works for recyclers that are trying to improve their income while contributing to the protection of the environment and benefiting citizens, businesses and municipalities. Ciudad Saludable and MNRP promote activities aimed to strengthen technical skills of men and women working as recyclers so that they have access to better opportunities. So far, we have conducted the following activities:
