Project: "Environmental Management in Offices of the Administrative Sector in Peru"

Description:

The goal of this project is to save and minimize the use of resources in offices without setting aside the needs and comfort of the people working in the offices and at the same time contribute to the protection of the environment. Environmental management in offices is the first step for the implementation of a sustainable approach in everyday activities that considers social, economic and environmental aspects. This project includes a methodology for the promotion of environmental management through the development of skills in personnel and the effective implementation of concrete and practical measures using a methodological guide for the improvement of the environmental performance.

Goals:

• Prepare and establish a methodological guide for environmental management in offices of the administrative sector in Peru.
• Improve the environmental performance in offices concerning the use of energy, water, paper office supplies and solid waste management as well as any suggestion made by the office.
• Contribute to the inclusion of ecological, social and profitable measures in offices of the administrative sector in Peru.
• Raise environmental awareness in the personnel that work in public and private institutions in order to contribute to sustainable development through the application of measures so as to minimize the use of resources and to reduce negative environmental impact.

Lessons Learned:

• Get all the personnel, from the director to the cleaning staff, working in an institution to become involved in environmental management.
• Be aware that every office is unique and therefore it is not possible to have a rigid work plan but several solution options.

Results:

• An initial methodology for environmental management in administrative offices was prepared.
• Work tools focused on administrative offices were developed in order to conduct an environmental diagnosis.
• An environmental diagnosis was conducted in the offices of Ciudad Saludable in Lima and an action plan was implemented for the medium and long term.
