Project: "Young People Painting Green


Description:

“Young people painting green” is a project aimed at strengthening environmental awareness among teenage students in six educational institutions in Surco as well as promoting the participation of young people in the improvement of municipal services. The project won the Civil Society Fund 2008 granted by World Bank and is being executed with the cooperation of the youth association Resurge, Ciudad Saludable and the Municipality of Santiago de Surco.

Goals:

General Goal: Contribute to the formation of young citizens that are environmentally responsible in six educational institutions in Santiago de Surco.

  • Promote environmental management of solid waste in educational institutions.
  • Diffuse experiences obtained in those educational institutions during the Environment World Day.

Results:

The goal of the project is to consolidate an Eco-Club Network in the District of Santiago de Surco through direct training of young leaders of the last three years of high school and facilitators. The project also expects to achieve the institutionalization of the School Environmental Committee (CAE) and environmental brigades in the six educational institutions by the end of the project. Finally, a massive celebration is planned for the Environmental World Day in order to organize and disseminate among others the activities conducted.

Beneficiaries:

Direct beneficiaries:

  • 30 teenagers that lead the School Eco-club Network in the District of Santiago de Surco.
  • 18 teachers in School Environmental Committees.
  • 50 members of the school environmental brigades in the educational institutions.

Indirect beneficiaries: 1600 students in six educational institutions.
